HIGH STAKES: National tournament berths on the line

It's tournament time in Region XIV.

The Region XIV Tournament is scheduled March 7-11 in Jacksonville at John Alexander Gym (old Lon Morris College gym), where eight women's teams and 12 men's team will battle for championship honors and national tournament berths.
 

The Lady Cards (24-5) are the No. 1 women's seed and are scheduled to play No. 8-seeded Angelina (15-15) at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals. The TVCC-Angelina winner will face the Tyler-Blinn winner in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m. Tyler and Blinn play at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

In the other half of the women's bracket Wednesday, San Jacinto and Jacksonville play at 6 p.m., followed by Panola and Kilgore at 8 p.m.
 

The women's title game is set for 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Cardinals (24-6) are the No. 3 men's seed and receive a bye in the first round. The Cardinals will take on the Angelina-Jacksonville winner in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Thursday. With a win, the Cardinals would advance to the semifinals Friday at 8 p.m.
 

Other men's teams in the tournament are San Jacinto, Panola, Lee, Tyler, Bossier Parish, Lamar State-PA, Paris, Blinn and Navarro.

San Jacinto, by virtue of the regular season conference championship has already secured a national tournament berth. If San Jacinto also wins the regional tournament, the team finishing second will also receive a national tournament berth.
 

The men's title game is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.
