WESTWARD WE GO: National tournament seedings announced

The Trinity Valley Community College Lady Cards will begin play in the 2017 NJCAA Women's Basketball National Tournament as the No. 6 seed. Tournament seedings/pairings were announced Monday afternoon.

As the No. 6 seed, the Lady Cards (27-5) will face the winner of the game between 11th-seeded Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (28-2) and 22nd-seeded Iowa Western (28-4) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. NEO and Iowa Western play at 12 p.m. Tuesday.

The Lady Cards are no stranger to the No. 6 seed. As an at-large selection last  year, the Lady Cards were the sixth seed and advanced to their fifth national title game in six years, falling 62-47 to Gulf Coast. Gulf Coast is the tournament's top seed again this year.

The tournament begins Monday at 10 a.m. with 24 teams – 16 regional champions and, for the first time in tournament history, eight at-large teams. The past four years the tournament featured 24 teams with 16 regional champions, four zone qualifiers and four at-large.

If the Lady Cards win their first game, they would play at 7 p.m. Thursday, facing the winner of third-seeded Chipola and the Walters State-Tyler winner.

The Lady Cards are making their 10th straight appearance in the national tournament and 22nd overall. They are 63-18 in national tournament games and own eight national titles.
