The eighth-ranked Cardinals have set themselves up for a playoff run in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.
The Cardinal put their proceed stamp on things Saturday afternoon at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium in Kilgore, coming away with a 30-14 win against Kilgore College.
With a fourth straight win, eighth-year head coach Sherard Poteete's squad improved to 6-1 on the year. The Cardinals are 4-1 in conference play, currently residing in second place. Kilgore slipped to 2-4 and 0-4 records.
The Cardinals are scheduled to be on the road again this week, traveling to Roswell, NM to face New Mexico Military Institute in a 3 p.m. (Texas time) kickoff. NMMI was a 45-21 winner Saturday against NEO to raise its records to 3-4 and 2-3.
In addition to keeping them into contention in the conference, the win also guaranteed the Cardinals a school record seven straight seasons with a winning record. The Cardinals had six straight winning seasons in 1964-69 and 2019-24.
Saturday's game at Kilgore was interrupted by a weather delay of almost and hour with the Cardinals up 10-7 with 1:57 left in the first half.
The Cardinals opened the scoring with a 49-yard Cash Fernandez field goal. After Kilgore took the lead on a two-yard run, the Cardinals came back to score three unanswered touchdowns for a 24-7 lead.
Kaden Brown completed 16-of-25 passes for 180 yards. He also had scoring pass to Jadin Hambrick.
Jamary Williams led the Cardinals on the ground, rambling for 180 yards and a pair of scores on 12 carries.
Lazavier Amos led the TVCC defense with 12 tackles, including a pair of sacks. Recording eight tackles each were Zhakius Thomas, Malik Ganaway and Phoenix Pope.
The Cardinals' next home game is Saturday, Nov. 1 against NEO at 1 p.m.
