The eighth-ranked Cardinals are headed to the SWJCFC regional playoffs.
The ticket to the postseason was punched Saturday in Roswell, NM with a lopsided 56-18 win against New Mexico Military Institute.
The win was the fifth straight for the Cardinals, who are 7-1 on the season. They are 5-1 in conference with one game remaining Saturday at home against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (2-5). Game time at Bruce Field is 1 p.m.
The Cardinals, Tyler and Navarro have wrapped up three of the four playoff berths. NEO is in contention for the remaining spot. The Golden Norsemen are 2-4 in league play. The playoffs begin Saturday, Nov. 15 at the site of the top two highest seeds.
A three-touchdown outburst in the second quarter gave the Cardinals a 28-3 halftime lead and all they would need against NMMI.
Kaden Brown completed 13-of-21 passes for 211 yard and three touchdowns before giving way to Jackson LaTour. In Cardinal debut, LaTour connected on 16-of-21 passes for 248 yards and three scores.
Demetrius Pearce, Jake Peveto, Germonie Davis, Ahstin Watkins Ja'Mikael Davis and Austin Abram III each caught a pass for a score. Davis caught six aerials for 84 yard and Chauncey Hogg and Abram each pulled in four.
The Cardinal ground game was led by Jamary Williams with 63 yards on 10 carries. He scored once.
The Cardinals are assured of a winning record for a seventh straight year, which is the longest streak in program history.
