There is something to this Home of Champions thing.
The Cardinal softball team got in on the act this weekend, winning a second straight Region XIV Conference championship.
The Cardinals (48-10) set up the championship Friday with a 9-1 and 10-2 sweep of Bossier Parish at Drumgoole Field at Cain Park. They then waited for alittle help on Sunday, which came in the form of a 4-2 Navarro win against Paris, giving them the outright title.
Next up for fourth-year head coach Maria Winn-Ratliff's squad is the regional tournament at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier City, LA. The tournament is schedule May 3-6. The top two teams advance to the national tournament May 19-24 in Yuma, AZ.
The Cardinals, who won the conference title with a 20-4 mark, are scheduled to play Alvin (24-28) at 5 p.m.
Saturday.

In Friday's Game 1 win against Bossier Parish, Mariah DeBose. Sydney Murphy, Alizah Fields and Janae Burnham had two hits each in a 12-hit attack. Burnham, along with Jade McQueen each drove in two runs.
Kiara Wiedenhaupt had a solo home run.
Miranda Pena struck out eight in getting the win in the circle.
Game 2 saw the Cardinals collecting 16 hits.
Molly Gilbert and Alizah Fields each went 4-for-4. Gilbert had four singles and Fields had an inside-the-park home run, a double and two singles. Fields drove in five runs.
Burnham and DeBose each had two hits.
Dominique Vargas was the winning pitcher, going the distance. She struck out three and allowed seven hits.
The two run-rule wins ran the Cardinals' season total to 27.
